First off, thank you to those that commented on last weeks post. Your words meant a lot and helped greatly. <3
It’s been a week since my little mental meltdown. A week to take a step back, mentally and physically and reassess goals, training and life. I’m glad I took the week lightly. I did 3 total runs over the course of the week and even as my training plan on my phone says I am over due for one training day (it’s annoying me and I’ll deal with it) I’m happy just ‘resting’.
Monday: Yoga. Needed for mind and body, especially after the nutty 17 miler I had the Sunday prior.
Tuesday: 6.2 miles 1:03:42time 10:16 pace 5 miles + speed intervals at the end.
Amazingly enough, I felt rested and happy waking up early in the am and managed to push this run out. Honestly, I was a a little nervous since, a) running in the dark is beginning to freak me out b)i was unsure how my legs would do with speed workout after 17 miles.
The time helped make me happy, but also seeing a lot of other runners out in the neighborhood so I wasn’t the only one out there made me feel a little safer. That and the cool fall mornings and sunrises are always fun to live in.
Friday: I was supposed to do 2×2 fast. Ex: 1 mi slow 2 mi fast few minute slow 2 mi fast and 1 mi slow. So about another 6.2 miles.
My body was having NONE of it. Seriously. And it was windy as hell. Not like it did much but annoy the hell out of me.
Again, my nerves were a bit shaky for running in the dark, but I felt okay mentally. Physically, I just couldn’t push through the entire run and that messed me up in the head.
1 mi slow 11:15 2 mi fast: 10:04 3 min slow: 14:48 2 mi fast: 11:11 last part: 18:29
I just couldn’t find my legs. I said eff it and ended up trudging home after mile 5 and ended the run at 5.42 miles. So I technically didn’t complete the workout. Whatev.
Saturday: paint + expo + clean house
Sunday: San Jose Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon. 14 miles on training plan. Hold between a 10:29 to 11 min mile
I’ll be writing up a full race report today, but will give a little bit info here too.
My dad dropped me off over by the Tank and I did a mile warm up to tack onto my half to get the full 14 for training.
Overall, the run went very well:
M1 : 11:37
Mile 2 was technically mile 1 of my 1/2, so by Mile 13 I was sub 10 and gunning it for the finish line. Hence the reason I wanted to puke as soon as I crossed it. I had stomach issues for several hours afterwards.
I fueled with a pb on toast and 1/2 banana for breakfast, then 2 chews every two miles along with my Nuun water bottle. I did maybe 3 water stations and grabbed Gatorade at 2 of them. I walked several times due to my IT bands but overall felt very strong and surprised at my pace.
Long run training stats: 14.52 miles , 2:30:50 time , avg pace 10:23
Total weeks miles: 26.14 miles
A nice little drop back week. Now it’s time to build it back up. I won’t run today, but will go to yoga and get back on track with running tomorrow. I’ll have to shift things around so I can get things done on their proper days
I’m looking forward to this week as it marks the halfway point in my 16 weeks of training. But then again, I am only halfway to my goal. Yikes. 8 more weeks folks. Then marathon. 4 of those weeks are going to have some crazy high mileage (for me). I’m looking at you 20 miles.
So, did I beat my course record? Did I somehow freakishly PR the course? You’ll have to check my Race Recap for that once I post it up
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Tell me. . .
-Any one race? How’d it go? Training?
-Cook or bake anything yummy recently?? Please share! I haven’t had time to bake and have been eyeing the damn pumpkin recipes with feverish abandon.
