Quicky Weekend

by Mexigarian on August 14, 2012

Hello!

everyone have a good weekend? A good start to the week? Anyone else think these weekends are flying by waaaaay to fast?

It ws a pretty busy weekend (as usual). Went to the Giants game on Saturday. . .

Yes that is a giraffe on my head.

Our seats at the game. Fun times. Went with Eric and the family. It was a great game to watch and be cheering for. We got the usual ball park grub. Garlic fries, chicken strips, popcorn and peanuts. Eric also had a hot dog and I got a snow cone that was more like a block of ice with flavored sugar drizzled on top. I swear we got the cones in the second inning and by the 8th it still hadn’t thawed completely. I kept chipping away at it with my spoon, much to the chagrin of my husband. lol. Next time I am getting a Ghiradelli ice cream instead.

And I didn’t have a single beer at the game!

The remainder of Saturday was spent cleaning at home and watching Olympics.

Sunday I got up early and hit a local trail for my long run. I got tired of running around the neighborhood and wanted a change of scenery, so I drove out to a popular one, found parking and was warming up in mile 1 by 7am. I love the trail. Shaded in most areas, a little breeze, beautiful scenery but it fills up as time goes on. I almost got hit by a cyclist that was speeding around a bend to pass me.

I felt pretty good. I ran most of the length, walking (maybe) a mile in total, with a pause to stretch at my turnaround point and to fuel up on a Gu block. I have been running with a bottled water in my hand the past few long runs, to stay hydrated and am thinking of switching to the bottle pack that can hang on my spi belt or a Camelbak.

My fellow runners out there, how do you fuel and stay hydrated on your long runs?

Towards the end of my run, my calves started their typical ache. :\ But the rest of me was feeling great! I was keeping pace with this one guy in front of me for the last 2 miles and could have passed him if I pushed it but didn’t want to piss off my calves any more.

I hit the 9 mile marker at 1:35:06 and kept on going until my end of the trail. Not too shabby for an odd mile run.

I stretched like crazy at the park and then walked back to my car, but my calves were/are unrelenting/ I have been doing the ‘cowboy strut’ where I look like I have been riding a horse too long . Bah.

I compressed and wrapped my calves with a heating pad last night.

After my run on Sunday, went home… showered… and took off to my uncles birthday/gaming party where board game have been played since Friday afternoon. I got in on two games, won one and then hit the road to my parents house to see my mom and my abuela.

From there I went to the studio and painted for a little while before getting called back to the parents for an early dinner of Chinese Food. I had the chow mein and lightly fried rice which were pretty good. Too tired to go do my chores, I headed home and sat on the couch with a glass of wine watching the closing ceremony to the Olympics.

Yesterday I had some oats in a jar for lunch.

I lost track of time after work and painted quite a bit in studio and forgot about going to Bikram. Whoops. That will be today’s activity.

Dinner last night was some steamed rice and quiona with veggies and fried egg. And 3 vegetarian wontons.

I also had a fresh bottle of Kombucha. I may or may bot have had some candy as well. :\

Eric and I watched Franklin and Bash episodes while I heated up my calves and soon after I went to the bedroom to get ready for bed. I stretched a bit while watching Shark Week shows and then tried to go to sleep but the moment I laid down my stomach starting twisting, cramping, and making non too pleasant noises.

For the next hour I was pretty much curled in a ball on the bathroom floor. From that position I learned where the damn ants were getting in from. ha.

I honestly have no idea as to what caused my horrible stomach episode. It just seemed to come out of no where. One minute I was fine and the next -BAM!- Perhaps it was the kombucha…. or the candy… I have no clue.

I haven’t had cheese since last week and my last bit of dairy was…..Saturday.

Anyone get hit like this with random stomach issues? How do you determine what might be the cause?

I know for sure I won’t be having any more candy (just threw out the rest of the bag) and I have one more kombucha in the fridge.

I will have my leftover veggie egg rice mixture and the leftover wontons as well as another kombucha tonight. Recreate and see what happens.

Today’s agenda: Paint, Bikram yoga, shower, and enjoy shark week. :)

Tell me. . .

Do you enjoy Shark Week? Who are your favorite ‘hosts’ or Discovery Channel personalities? I LOVE Mythbusters. I could watch them for hours.

How to you keep from getting achy calves on runs? Normally I wear my compression sleeves on runs (couldn’t find them!!) and still I get achy calves…..

Any home remedies in hot compressing the calves? I need a better method than the hot pad. It wasn’t tight enough.
